The principle objectives of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain (Gem-A) are the promotion of the study of gemmology and the scientific study of all materials and articles used or dealt in by persons interested in gemmology, the establishment of educational systems, holding of examinations, award of diplomas and medals, provision of laboratory services to the jewellery trade, and the maintaining of libaries and collections of gem materials.
